The Spinoza House guestbook records that none other than Albert Einstein visited this historic house on 2 November 1920. The Spinoza House is world-famous because the influential Dutch philosopher Benedict de Spinoza, a pioneer of rationalism in the 17th century, lived here between 1661 and 1663.
Since 1899, the house has functioned as a museum in honour of Spinoza. The museum rooms house a unique collection of books from his original library, considered invaluable internationally. In addition to these rare books, the museum also offers beautiful portraits, sculptures and poems, which together paint an inspiring picture of the life and philosophy of one of the greatest thinkers in Dutch history.
This historical and cultural monument is a must-see for lovers of philosophy, history and literature.
