Every spring, the bulb fields in the Dune and Flowerbulb Region are a breathtaking spectacle of colours, stretching as far as the eye can see.
From all over the world, visitors flock to this region to admire the vast fields of flowering tulips, daffodils and hyacinths, which transform the landscapes into a sea of flowers.
The flowering season starts in late March, after the first crocuses, and continues into May. Then, in late summer, flowers like gladioli, dahlias, carnations and asters bring a second bloom that makes the fields shine again.
After these colourful blooms, the flowers are ‘budded’ - the flowers are cut - for the floats of the famous Flower Parade, which passes through the region on the first Saturday after 19 April, attracting thousands of visitors.
A second parade, the Flower Parade, passes through Rijnsburg on the second Saturday in August, again showcasing a feast of flowers.
After the parade, the flower bulbs are harvested, peeled, dried and stored in bulb sheds. In autumn, they are planted again to ensure another display of flowers in spring.
A visit to the bulb fields in the Dune and Flowerbulb Region is an unforgettable experience for anyone who loves the beauty of flowers, nature and colour.
